Certified in Sports Hypnosis, Master Hypnotist Doc has been hypnotizing amateur and professional athletes since 2002. What starting out as working with amateur golfers and tennis players in South Florida, led to the opportunity to work with professional baseball players. Overtime, Doc's repertoire has consisted of high school football and volleyball teams, as well as individuals involved in figure skating and triathlons. Q. WHAT CAUSES AN ATHLETES PERFORMANCE TO VARY SO MUCH?
A.After eliminating temporary health factors, most athletes attribute changes in their performance to mental issues. After many years of exercising their body and practice, very few athletes realize the benefits of hypnosis in sharpening their mental skills.
Q.I ALREADY HAVE A COACH, DO I NEED ANOTHER ONE?
A. A sports hypnotist does not take the place of your coach, but rather, a hypnotist concerns himself with developing the appropriate mental attitude to enable an athlete to practice and to execute at his/her peak performance. A SPORTS HYPNOTIST COMPLEMENTS A COACH, THEY DO NOT REPLACE THEM!
Q.WHY DO YOU USE IMAGERY?
A. Imagery, which is a combination of all of the senses, is helpful in controlling anxiety or arousal, facilitating relaxation, improving self-confidence and motivation, and enhancing performance. When in hypnosis, we work together in imaging the performance that YOU WANT to achieve.
Q.HOW ABOUT OUTSIDE DISTRACTIONS?
A. The ability to eliminate distractions and to block out the irrelevant, is a critical skill that can be developed through hypnosis. Distractions may be as simple as activity around the playing surface, and as deep seeded as mortgage payments and relationship issues. While the critical conscious mind may have trouble rejecting distractions, the subconscious mind, through hypnosis, can eliminate all extraneous distractions during competition.
Q.HOW CAN HYPNOSIS ASSIST WITH PAIN MANAGEMENT?
A. When a muscle is in pain from an injury, the body tends to tighten that muscle. This in turn increases the pain, which further increases the tension in that muscle. Hypnosis can both induce relaxation and reduce pain, thereby effectively breaking the pain-tension cycle. Also, a relaxed muscle can heal itself more rapidly than a muscle under tension. Athletes who learn to do their stretching in a light hypnotic trance find that they achieve flexibility rapidly and thoroughly. An athlete in a relaxed and flexible state, can also perform more smoothly and is much less susceptible to injuries.
Q.DO I REALLY NEED HYPNOSIS? A. You have to decide on how much better you want to perform. Where the conscious mind has limits, hypnosis breaks those bounds and can truly take an athlete to another level. What is many times deemed impossible, can actually become reality when an athlete refocuses their perception of reality. Only through hypnosis can an athlete actually see, hear and feel a positive outcome of an event, yet to take place. Now is your chance to "BE IN THE ZONE" at all times!
Q.WHAT IS A HYPNOSIS SESSION LIKE AND HOW LONG ARE THEY?
A. Each session lasts about one hour, with the first session lasting approximately 1 ½-2 hours. The number of sessions required to reach your desired goals will vary, but after 3-5 sessions and your participation in reinforcement exercises, you will see positive changes in your behavior. Many times, benefits are recognized even quicker, but reinforcement is the key to success. You can either have individual sessions as needed, or you can schedule a four session hypnotic workshop, that includes a PowerPoint Program. Each session of the four session program will include such topics as: goals; suppressing negative talk; commitment; and establishing triggers. Each session, you will experience deep relaxation and become, not only a more confident athlete, but also a better person.
