HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. The HypnoBirthing® concept is not new, but rather a "rebirth" of the philosophy of birthing as it existed thousands of years ago and as it was recaptured in the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician, who first forwarded the concept of natural birthing in the 1920's. The method teaches you that in the absence of fear and tension, pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labor.
You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony - as they were designed to -when your body is sufficiently relaxed. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural birthing instincts for a calm, serene and comfortable birthing.
When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you will not be in a trance or a sleep. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming or focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or a movie or staring into a fire. You will be conversant and in good spirits - totally relaxed, but fully in control. Awake throughout, you will be aware of your body's surges; but because you will have trained yourself to reach complete relaxation, you will be able to determine the degree to which you will feel the surges. You will experience birthing in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, free of the fear and tension that prevents the muscles of your body from functioning as nature intended them to. In this calm state, your body's natural anesthesia called "endorphins", replaces the stress hormones that constrict and cause pain.
HypnoBirthing® teaches pregnant women and their birthing companions the art and joy of experiencing birth in a safer, more comfortable manner. They are taught how to call upon their bodies' own natural epidural and thus eliminates the need for medication. When a woman is properly prepared for childbirth and when her mind and body are in harmony, nature is free to function in the same well-designed manner that it does with all other creatures.
You will be fascinated as you view HypnoBirthing® videos showing laboring mothers, awake, alert and in good humor as they experience safe, gentle birth - free of the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome. HypnoBirthing® teaches a woman how to release all prior programming about birth, how to trust her body and work with it, as well as how to free herself of harmful emotions that lead to pain-causing fear and constricting muscles.
Through four 2+ hour sessions, HypnoBirthing® teaches women the art of using their natural birthing instincts. The program will teach expectant mothers what to expect, and how to cope with all aspects of the birthing experience. While it is best to take the course between the 5th and 8th month, it is never to early or to late to prepare for your upcoming, wonderful birthing experience. Since HypnoBirthing® moms are always aware and fully in control, while being profoundly relaxed, call now to discuss all aspects of this life-changing program.
THERE’S A NEW ARRIVAL AT ST. MARY’S HOSPITAL
"HYPNOBIRTHING" - HYPNOSIS FOR PAINLESS CHILDBIRTH
Master Hypnotist Doc Dougherty is proud to announce the arrival of his HypnoBirthing Class at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach. Starting next month, a 4-session program will take place every Friday, with each class lasting approximately 2+ hours. Each month a new class will begin. The program empowers women to experience childbirth without the fear and the pain that women traditionally expect.
"As in life, what you think about ...you can bring about. What you expect has a powerful tendency to be realized," says instructor Doc Dougherty, certified hypnotist, certified HypnoBirthing Practitioner and father of 5 children. "The outstanding program assists in removing the fears that accompanies childbirth, while teaching mothers and their companions how to utilize hypnosis for a safe, comfortable birth."
Since Dougherty is also a party/stage hypnotist, the class is not only informative, but also fun. "Beyond teaching the basics of the HypnoBirthing program, I also like to make it as entertaining as possible, while still focusing on having a relaxing birthing experience", Dougherty said. "HypnoBirthing is a rewarding, relaxing, stress-free method of birthing that is based on the belief that when a mother is properly prepared for birthing physically, mentally and spiritually, she can experience the joy of birthing her baby in an easier, more comfortable, and pain free manner. HypnoBirthing returns to women the art of birthing in a way that allows her to summon her own natural birthing instincts. The program is based on the belief that severe discomfort does not need to be a natural accompaniment of labor."
What makes HypnoBirthing different than any other childbirth class? HypnoBirthing eliminates the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome before, during and after birthing, while reducing the need for chemical anesthesia. By eliminating fatigue during labor, the mother is left feeling fresh, awake and with the energy needed to bring her baby into the world easily and comfortably.
Since the program is 10 hours in length, the schedule uniquely brings together the mother, the baby, and the birthing companion in a wonderful prenatal and perinatal bonding experience. HypnoBirthing, through interesting and unique exercises, enforces the idea that the birthing companion is an integral part of the birthing process...not an onlooker.
In dispelling a few myths of hypnosis, Dougherty continued that you can never get stuck in hypnosis; you are totally aware of your surroundings at all times; and you will never do any unethical, illegal or immoral; you are simply in such a relaxed state that you are not bothered by outside influences, including discomfort. "At no time are you at sleep. On the contrary, the mother is normally conversant and in good spirits - totally relaxed, but fully in control."
Dougherty said that in simple terms, when our bodies sense fear (fight or flight), hormones are released and blood flow is sent to the proper organs and muscles. Since a woman’s uterus plays no part in the body’s defense, constricting muscles do not allow for an easy delivery. By removing the fears associated with labor, HypnoBirthing mothers find that the first stage of labor is shortened by several hours, which often eliminates the need to push and struggle to bring the baby into the world. Unlike the long-drawn out complications that accompany the births of tense and nervous mothers, HypnoBirthing mothers are overwhelmingly confident, while being profoundly relaxed.
A traditional HypnoBirthing class includes numerous handouts, the viewing of video taped HypnoBirths, hypnosis demonstrations and exercises. Beyond the handouts, all mothers will receive a book and a CD, which allows for practice at home. While the ideal time to take the HypnoBirthing course is between the 5-8 month of pregnancy, it is never to early or to late to prepare for a wonderful, relaxing, pain-free birth.
